A post-disciplinary grouping of scholars from arts and social science departments in Aberystwyth established around the intersection of performance and politics.

Performance and Politics international (PPi) was established in 2007 in Aberystwyth as the first research centre in the UK to provide a coherent focus for leading interdisciplinary research around the intersection of performance and politics.

Invited Distinguished Speakers from all over the world are central to our success. The innovative approach we have developed, adding an extended seminar conversation the following day to the regular evening lecture, enables us to draw out synergies and vocabularies for cross-disciplinary research.

Our regular Symposia and Workshops bring together artists, practitioners and academics around selected themes and/or contemporary events and performances. These enable us to explore and develop transformative research methods,  innovative critical/creative practices and new collaborations.

We nurture post-graduate research through a unique Masters programme, the MA Politics, Media and Performance, and PhD supervision. Our postgraduate colleagues are active participants in PPi’s research and events programme.

In addition, we program Exhibitions and other open-access, mixed-format events in collaboration with public-facing partners.

Our research has led to major Publications, and includes edited volumes as well as articles and monographs by PPi researchers. We have initiated and been partners in funding bids totalling over £2 million.

We have Collaborative Links with other centres of performance and politics research, visual politics, and art and politics in the UK, Europe, Australia and the Americas.
