Stitched Voices exhibition opening

The Stitched Voices exhibition opened last night at Aberystwyth Arts Centre with a very well attended evening of music, poetry and dance. The exhibition, commissioned by Berit Bliesemann de Guevara and a team of PhD students from the Department of International Politics and curated by Roberta Bacic, runs until 12 May. It displays arpilleras, quilts, banners and other textiles from different parts of the world, produced to protest conflict and human rights abuses, particularly disappearances. Performance and Politics International Research Centre (PPi) supports the event as a cooperation partner, and our linked Symposium Absence, Presence, Embodiment will begin with a visit to the exhibition and a textile workshop led by Becky Knight, maker of the banner displayed in the image above.
